Family Trip

My first blog, never thought I would set one up as the thought of typing over 500 words, being creative, verbose seemed like a lot of effort. But this trip was quite an experience was quite a moment in my life, so I thought I would best capture it , so that any moment of time me , my family who were a part of this trip could go through this blog and relive those moments. To everyone else who visits this blog, these are some of the moments of my life in the summer of 09.

Lets get started with the trip diary

Day 1 27th march 09: The last day of our Qtr at work as well for some reason i felt like I was in school waiting for the summer holidays to start the next day. I told Shwetha (wife) about this she felt the same way too. I left early that day, came home to see Ananya(daughter) frightened by the diesel generator sound across our apartment. Then started the frantic activity of me and Shwetha packing and Ananya unpacking. I was done with my bag in 5 min flat as it meant just stuffing travel stuff. Shwetha being quite organized took 90 min, which included looking over Ananya which is quite like juggling with your pants on fire. We were done around 8:00 PM. Let the apartment drove to Dad's home. My family is quite big - dad, mom, aunt, sis, bil. So when we reached home Ananya flew from one hand to another, I quite did not get to see her till we hit the bed

Day 2 28th march 09:
Up at 5:15 AM, ready by 5:45 AM. The family was ready too including Ananya. We had hired a TT Ac 12 seater at Rs.10.50 per KM. It was the same ride that my team had used for a trip to Madhumalai. It was real comfy with 7 of us, the push back and the Ac it was one of the high points in the trip. We started at 6:15 AM towards Wayanad, at around 7:30 we reached Kamat Lokaruchi , it was as if Bangalore was der. We had a buffet breakfast, worst choice, as you had to stand in a Que. It was not filling at all at 75 Rs per plate. Post Bfast we continued our journey. Ananya was awake and ready to rock by then, she surfed from one seat to another, tills she hurt her nose when TT braked all of a sudden. A small cut on her nose with red drop around her nose, tears in her eyes she had the entire family on her heels. This is one among the many falls she had during the trip.

En route to Gundalpet we passed through Bandipur National Park. I asked the TT to slow down during our ride in the forest, in the hope that we could get to see some animals. We saw a couple of deer, my family was excited I was hopeful that we would see a tusker. But nature decided to hide its treasures.

I was told that the route had a lot of water falls, but might be it was the summer we found none. We reached Kalpeta and drove to our resort called Coffee Acres. The place was kick a** good. Quick review, 7 acres of plantation, resort situated in the middle. Slilt houses think there 5 of them we occupied 2 no other guests though being a long weekend in Bangalore. The place had opened 4 months back. We are a bunch of mallus, being married to a kannadiga we had an eclectic mix. The food was mal though I usually do not like authentic kerala cuisine.

Done with Lunch we set out for this natural lake called Pokoot. I had a eiry feeling that It was going to be like a Lumbini experience, but it was quite the opposite. It was as if it were out of a post card. The lake was surrounded by hills on all sides, each hill with its own distinct flora, giving each hills its own very unique shade. We took the paddle boat and went for a ride around the lake. One hard lesson here don't paddle, u will just go tired , just do gentle pushes it would cover greater distances with minimal effort. We went to the aquarium in the same place real creepy place, but Ananya was delighted she kept saying meen ( fish in Malayalam). There is a store where you can buy some decent stuff that you could take home.

Then we went to see the view points, these are points on the highway were you get a panoramic view. With all the vendors around and the vehicles passing by its not the best views I have had.

We stopped by the Walnut shop on the way back to our resort, they have some adventurous dishes like "banana puff' and "dates puff", I went with the muffins and they were simply awesome.

We reached the resort doing a lot of real loud talking, then we had some tea "sulaimani". A must have after a tiring day.The beds at the resort were real firm, though i slept on the couch I slept like a child.

Day 2 29th March 09:
We had bfast at coffee acres it was velliappam its a dish that does not go well with me, but for some reason on that day it tasted pretty good. We started of towards the Banasura dam. The highlight of the dam is the speed boat, think its a good ride around the man made lake. We did some bouncy moments , criss crosiing, steep u turns it was good fun. There is a park where you can just relax, it has these swings took me back to some my memories from our ancesterial home at Mangalore.

After the dam we started out towards coorg, the roads were great till Kunta then it got really worse, we stopped at a fake kamat at Gundalpet, real sick restaurant, my dad took ill after eating there. The moments after this were quite nervous for me, I really didn't know whether we had to head back to Bangalore, or stick to plan and visit coorg. I took the wiser decision to stop at coorg. We stopped at a home stay called Nelimane the place is 14 km from Virajpet on the way to Marcera.

The stop over was good for 2 reasons medical attention & rest for my dad, stop and rewiding into my childhood summer holidays at mangalore. The home stay is a great place if you looking for basic accommodation, good food & great hospitality. My aunt , wife and mom were soon discussing recipes and gardening tips with the owners. Food was basic entirely veggie but yummy.

Day 3 29th March 2009:
We had bfast at the homestay, a dish called paputtu. A must have coorgi dish. We had no further itinerary the trip, as my das was not doing to o well, we just fixed talacauvery. Talacauvery is 40 km from the place we stayed, traveling to and fro is a major hassle, but being the consumers of this rivers water since our birth, we could not resist the urge to go and say thank you. After Talacauvery, we decided to have lunch at Madikeri, restaurants- good ones are real difficult to com by. We found this place called Savera near Raja's seat. Good north Indian food.

Then we started towards Bangalore, with only 2 stops 1 to buy mangoes near Mysore, tea at mandya. Reached home at 8 PM.

Summer might not be the right time to visit both places, I would definitely go back to Wayanad. Coorg might be just drooped of from the radar as I have been to the place twice.
